I spend the weekend getting the OS installed on both machines in Haslell 201. The machines are named "Feynman" and "Glenn-Mann". There both have an up to date version of ubuntu installed on them and have been ripped down somewhat. The username is cs3194 and passwd is csci. The root passwd is also csci. applications you should be able to install via synaptic package manager no problem and ssh access should be setup on these machines as well. you can use ruptime to check if the machines are up rwho and rusers, etc to see who is logged into them

Yeah fellows, this is tomorrow, and as far as I know we have no group-wide communication and no input from the teacher.
Uh
Good luck I guess, I think we are going to try to get applications installed tonight.

At least thats what the schedule says, unfortunate as we didn't get to do any work in class this week. First question, are we actually presenting on monday? If so, where do we stand, software has a complete list, all we need to do is get it on a machine. Are we going to bring that machine to the presentation or just talk about it?
Come on guys, there are going to be a strong 7 people watching this thing, we really have to have our act together

All,
Team Applications did some preliminary work, and here's what we are looking at so far.
---------------------------------------------
Browser - Firefox, with flashgot, filterset g, and a couple of greasemonkey scripts
Office -
Excel - Gnumeric OO.o's Calc?
Powerpoint - OO.o's Impress
Word - Abiword
Publisher - Scribus?
Calculator - gcalctool xcalc?
Images
Viewer- eye of gnome (eog)
Photoshop - GIMP GIMPshop?
Paint - xpaint
AntiVirus - Clam AntiVirus?
Emulator - WINE
Editors
Text - VIm, Gedit
IDE - Eclipse (possibly the Omondo plugin)
Media - Mplayer? VLC?
Burning - GnomeBaker?
Audio
Sound Recorder - gnome-sound-recorder?
Audio Mixer - Audacity?
----------------------------
We wanted to ask:
1) Any categories or specific applications we left off that you all know of?
2) OS: Anything on this list that you think would be especially difficult to get working with what you all are looking at? Any suggestions for programs that would be easier?
3) OS: Are you going to have something like SELinux on there to lock down the systems?
4) Hardware: Eclipse is pretty memory intensive, we understand. But we'd really like to use it for our graphical IDE. Do you think our hardware will be capable of running it, at least moderately well?

Hi guys,
For next Monday we are just splitting up the different parts and everyone can try to find the best/cheapest one. Here's what we've got:
Hard Drive - Tim
Mobo - Josh
Case/PSU - Will
Monitor - Sarah
Memory
Keyboard
Mouse
So Noah/Jeremy, can you guys try to come up with something for the Memory/Keyboard/Mouse? Josh found a website with like a $3 keyboard, so maybe you can get that from him. Also we have to make sure that the memory will work with the motherboard.
We're assuming that the mobo will have onboard video/processor/sound etc.
Tim
